PLACID Instruments BV is a specialist manufacturer of acoustic measurement equipment based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. We design, manufacture, and calibrate precision measurement microphones, preamplifiers, and multi-channel data acquisition systems for acoustics professionals in research, industry, compliance testing, and government monitoring programmes. Our instruments are used in more than 40 countries across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.
PLACID was founded on a clear principle: that the measurement instruments used in professional acoustic work should deliver traceable, defensible results without requiring the user to purchase significantly more capability than their application demands. The acoustic measurement instrument market has long been dominated by a small number of premium-priced manufacturers. PLACID provides a credible European alternative that does not compromise on calibration quality or measurement traceability, while offering more flexible pricing for laboratories and consultancies that need to equip multiple channels or multiple sites.
Our measurement microphones are manufactured to IEC 61094-4 working standard specifications. Every microphone capsule is individually characterised during production and leaves the factory with a QA/AC calibration certificate documenting its sensitivity and frequency response. ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration is available for every product in the range, providing a calibration certificate with stated measurement uncertainty traceable through VSL (Van Swinden Laboratorium) to BIPM international standards.
PLACID Instruments BV is located at Newtonlaan 115, Office 2.21, 3584 BH Utrecht, The Netherlands. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:00 CET. We respond to technical enquiries and quotation requests within 1 to 2 business days. For urgent requirements, please call +31 (0) 30 210 6021 directly.
PLACID instruments are actively used and trusted by national regulators, university acoustics departments, accredited test laboratories, and engineering consultancies across Europe. Our approach is transparent: published calibration data, documented uncertainty records, and direct engineer-to-engineer support. If your measurement programme depends on results you can defend, we are the right partner.
