PLACID Instruments Measurement Microphone Range Overview

PLACID Instruments manufactures a range of condenser measurement microphones covering the performance levels and capsule sizes needed for the principal acoustic measurement applications in environmental monitoring, industrial noise, building acoustics, NVH, and laboratory research. All PLACID measurement microphones are externally polarised (200 V) condenser capsules designed for use with compatible preamplifiers. Each capsule is individually tested and supplied with a factory calibration document. ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration is available for every model.

1/2-Inch Free-Field Microphones — The Core Range

• PM200 — Class 1 free-field, -26 dB re 1 V/Pa sensitivity, self-noise < 16 dB(A), 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The standard choice for environmental noise, NVH, and compliance measurement.
• PM201 — Class 1 free-field with TEDS, same performance as PM200 with IEEE 1451.4 TEDS identification for automated multi-channel systems
• PM202 — Class 2 free-field, -28 dB re 1 V/Pa sensitivity, self-noise < 18 dB(A). Suitable for industrial noise surveys and applications where Class 2 is the required standard.

1/2-Inch Pressure-Field Microphones

• PM210 — Class 1 pressure-field, for coupler measurement, IEC 60711 ear canal simulators, and HATS applications. Flat pressure response within Class 1 tolerances.
• PM211 — Class 1 pressure-field with TEDS

1/4-Inch Microphones for High-SPL and High-Frequency Applications

• PM400 — Class 1 1/4" free-field, frequency range to 40 kHz, maximum SPL 160 dB. For aerospace acoustic testing, high-frequency research, and high-SPL environments.
• PM401 — Class 1 1/4" pressure-field, frequency range to 40 kHz, for high-frequency coupler measurement.

Preamplifier Range

• PA10 — standard 1/2" body preamplifier, 200 V polarisation supply, IEPE output, low-noise JFET input stage
• PA11 — 1/2" body with XLR connector for direct connection to mixing consoles and some field recorders
• PA20 — 1/4" body preamplifier for PM400 and PM401 capsules, 200 V polarisation supply, IEPE output
• PA10-TEDS — as PA10 with TEDS read-out circuitry for automatic capsule identification in multi-channel systems

All PLACID preamplifiers use a transformerless, direct-coupled design with a low-noise JFET input stage. Nominal output impedance is below 50 Ω, compatible with standard IEPE signal conditioning inputs at cable lengths up to 100 m. Each preamplifier is supplied with calibration documentation confirming the gain and frequency response at standard conditions.
